Four killed, five hurt as vehicle skids off mountain slope

RIYADH – Four people were killed and five others injured when a vehicle fell off a steep mountain slope west of the city of Riyadh on Saturday.

The five injured people were airlifted to hospital, according to Lt. Col. Muhammad Al-Hammadi, spokesman for the General Directorate of Civil Defense. There were nine people in the vehicle.

The spokesman said Civil Defense rescue teams rushed to the scene after the Unified Security Operations Center received information about the accident.

The teams airlifted the injured to hospital on board a security aviation aircraft. They retrieved four bodies from the rugged terrain.

Al-Hammadi called on citizens and residents to be very cautious while conducting pleasure trips to mountains and rugged terrains. He urged the public to contact over the emergency no. 911 in the Makkah and Riyadh regions and 998 in other regions of the Kingdom in the event any emergency assistance was required.
