JEDDAH — Maulana Hifzur Rahman Seoharwi Academy is distributing prayer mats and other souvenirs among pilgrims in Makkah.



The Jeddah-based academy will distribute 20,000 easily foldable plastic prayer mats, 10,000 stickers containing verses from the Holy Qur'an, 5,000 decoration pieces and 30,000 copies of the Holy Quran and other religious books, said the guiding force behind the academy, Bahjat Najmi.



During the last days of Ramadan, the academy distributed 225 Eid packets containing flour, rice, oil, sugar, vermicelli, nuts and other items to the needy families in Jeddah, according to Najmi. The academy has been rendering this service to pilgrims for over a decade.



Maulana Hifzur Rehman was a famous freedom fighter and noted Muslim personality of India.



He spent about eight years in jail during the freedom struggle. Maulana Hifzur Rahman, a champion of the downtrodden and an unequivocal proponent of the causes of Indian Muslims, was a member of the first Constituent Assembly of India and served the nation as a member of parliament from Amroha in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh from 1943 to 1962.
