Food art usually brings to mind cuisine and the art of cooking itself, but there are some who have taken the concept further.

Russian photographer and food stylist, Tatiana Shkondina, has taken food and used it to recreate paintings by famous masters, such as Van Gogh, Magritte, Klimt and Dalí.

Shkondina uses a combination of different foods and material to create stunning culinary recreations of the original artworks.

In a similar vein, self-taught New York based photographer, Zeren Badar reinterprets some of the worlds most famous paintings by covering them with cheap and readily available candy and cakes.

In her accident series she also applies other food to recreations of famous works.

“Oh no! I’ve just cracked an egg on the old master that was casually on my kitchen counter, that so wasn’t a frying pan,” she said.

With these unexpected juxtapositions and new graphics and textural effects the artists are bringing to life a new and contemporary vision.
