Shell Saudi Arabia to produce BMW’s branded engine oils

SHELL Saudi Arabia celebrated its strategic partnership with Mohammed Yousuf Naghi Motors Company, the BMW Group importer in Saudi Arabia, whereby Shell will produce and supply BMW’s branded engine oils. These products will meet the latest BMW engine specifications and are underpinned by Shell’s PurePlus Technology.

The strategic partnership between Shell Saudi Arabia and Mohammed Yousuf Naghi Motors Company, the BMW Group importer was announced at an official ceremony held in Jeddah with the presence of Waqar Siddiqui, CEO of Shell Saudi Arabia, and Stavros Paraskevaides, Managing Director of Mohammed Yousuf Naghi Motors Company, the BMW Group importer, with the participation of other senior executives from both companies as well from BMW ME, Shell demonstrated its relationship with BMW globally, reviewed its future strategy in the Saudi market and broadcasted a documentary film about PurePlus technology.

Siddiqui said Shell drive to produce premium engine oils through converting natural gas into crystal-pure base oil in order to produce synthetic oils that provides top notch cleaning and protection for engines, thereby strengthening the global relationship between Shell and BMW. He added “We are proud of this partnership with one of the most important companies in the Saudi automotive sector, and we shall do our best to enhance and strengthen this partnership.

Paraskevaides said: “We are pleased with this partnership here in Saudi Arabia to reflect the global partnership between the two international companies, BMW has high quality standard when it comes to engine oil, which must be in consistent and meet the latest specifications of BMW engines, He added “These innovative products will further enhance the dynamism of our vehicles and ensure driving pleasure, even in the harsh climate conditions in Saudi Arabia”

Siddiqui further said: “Pure Plus technology is about exploiting natural gas energy to produce the next generation of engine oils. Shell’s PurePlus Technology is a breakthrough in how engine oils are formulated. It is a patented gas-to-liquid (GTL) process, developed over 40 years of research, which converts natural gas into crystal-clear base oil.”

He noted that the quality of engine oil depends largely on its main components: the base oils. They make up approximately 75-90% of an engine oil product. Original BMW engine oils use Shell Pure Plus technology which makes base oils from natural gas rather than crude oil. The result crystal clear base oils containing virtually none of the impurities found in crude oil. — SG
