In addition to his career as a superstar tenor, Plácido Domingo is an accomplished conductor; and, in this capacity continues to command the stages of the world’s leading opera houses with his baton. Maestro Domingo conducted the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra (ROSO) in an evening of beautiful music by Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, featuring the young Italian pianist, Beatrice Rana yesterday.

“The Royal Opera House in Muscat is a marvelous gem with the proven capacity to mount the biggest Operatic production anyone has ever seen as well as present the highest level of classical music. It also possesses a fabulous acoustic when transformed into the Concert Hall. Since I have now inaugurated both the Opera House and the Concert Hall, I know that it is an engineering work of art. But the most important and valuable asset this house has is the people that run the day to day operations. You have built a tremendous team of individuals, local and international, who have found the perfect harmony that this wondrous Opera house deserves. I have the highest wishes, and I hope to be able to come back soon to continue to participate in this development," he said.

The exceptionally talented young pianist, Beatrice Rana performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1 in B flat minor, Op 23. Recipient of an impressive number of first prizes in national and international piano competitions, such as “Muzio Clementi” Competition, “International Piano Competition of the Republic of San Marino” and “Bang & Olufsen PianoRAMA Competition”, twenty-three year-old Beatrice Rana has shaken the international classical music world with her precociousness, arousing admiration and interest from concert presenters, conductors, critics and audiences in many countries.

With this concert the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Oman expands its repertoire and the musicians have further honed their skills in a December rehearsal series with Maestro Jordi Bernacer. The concert marks a milestone as it will be ROSO’s debut as the solo orchestra in a concert at the Royal Opera House Muscat.
