The Fourth International Festival for Drums and Traditional Arts concluded in Cairo recently, with bands from all over the world participating.

The festival ran for nine days and had around 5000 people attend to see bands from around 20 countries perform in tent theatres in three cities.

The slogan of the festival was “drumming for peace” and saw bands from India, the guest of honor, as well as Saudi Arabia, China, Thailand, Switzerland, Malaysia, Romania, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana, Namibia, Guinea, Conakry Indonesia, Sudan and Kazakhstan.

A number of folk, university, sport, and children’s bands from across Egypt also performed as part of the festival.

Head of the festival, Intesar Abdul Fatah, opened the festival by saying that all of the countries shared artistic values and were sending their message to the world through the festival’s slogan.

Those that attended the festival said they were impressed with the effort and that they believe that the festival gives a chance to people to experience other cultures and traditional arts.
