Safe tips for Summer trips

Summer is here, along with the vibe of excitement in exploring new countries and cultures. But in light of the recent attacks, sexual assaults, kidnappings, and muggings, travel groups are often keen to discover new places that are safe. As you prepare for your summer journey, especially if it is a solo trip, consider the following tips for your safety before you travel and arrive at your destination.

Research
Good research will save you from falling prey to a number of dangers. Read the recent news about the country you’re visiting to know more about its economic and political climate. Reading will also help you learn more of the traditions and culture of your destination, making it easier to deal with the country’s citizens. By reading you will be better at picking a safe location for your accommodation and planning the places you should visit.

Appearance and style
While preparing your luggage try to choose casual, simple clothes that are similar to the clothes of the place you visit. Following this tip could save you from being kidnapped or robbed, as your social class and background will be less obvious. Avoid wearing accessories and jewelry because they always grab thieves’ attention.

Cash and Passport
Never take all your money while going out for the day during your trip. Only take what you think you’ll need for the day, with a little bit extra incase – about $120 total – and spread it over different pockets; don’t put all your money in one spot. Print several copies of your passport and visa for the country you are visiting.

Informing others
It is advised that you share a copy of your travel schedule with a trusted family member or a friend. Keep the number of your country’s embassy in your recent dials so you can reach them easily in a real emergency. If you are on a solo trip, always share your location with your spouse or a trusted family member.

Focusing on health
Concentrating on your health during your travels will save you from many problems, including fainting, or mosquito bites. Always carry a bottle of water with you and make sure that your body is hydrated. Eat large portions of fresh vegetables and fruits, and take any medication you take regularly plus some extras you might need. If you suffer from any disease, such as diabetes, it is advisable to inform your doctor and keep in touch with them in case of an emergency. It would also be smart to travel with hand sanitizer.
