Kemi SnowCastle opened its gates for the 22nd time and attracted over 1200 visitors. The SnowCastle is open daily until 9th of April 2017. The inauguration also had fireworks synchronized with the Finlandia hymn to mark the grand opening. This Winter Wonderland is made entirely out of sea water. It has various festive activities for children including a fun snow slide and this year a labyrinth made of ice for them. The castle is home to unique snow-and ice art, a SnowHotel and a SnowRestaurant where the meal is served on ice tables. The SnowHotel won two prizes in the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2016. One as a Global Winner for a Bespoken Luxury Experience and a national winner for being an Eco-friendly hotel. “We are proud to be the official partner of the Finland 100 years organisation as Finland celebrates this year its 100th anniversary”, said Kemi Tourism Ltd. CEO Susanna Koutonen. The theme of the Finland 100 celebrations is focused on ‘togetherness’. It has the world’s largest SnowRestaurant which can seat 250 guests and is 70 meters long. Many weddings take place at the SnowChapel which is also made entirely of snow and ice from sea water. Kemi Tourism Ltd. has reportedly expanded the operation to one-of-a-kind Seaside Glass Villas in the SnowCastle area. If you want to witness the Northern Lights, the best time for it is from August to April and Midnight Sun in the summer time. in fact the neighboring sea freezes in the winter and becomes a playground for visitors.
