On Sunday, hundreds of people walked to the Islamic Center of Columbia, Missouri to show support for Muslims and to protest President Donald Trump’s executive order blocking people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States for ninety days.

Demonstrators held signs and periodically chanted before heading to the Islamic Center, where they were greeted by a group of Muslims who had set up a table with refreshments. The demonstrators covered the steps of the Islamic Center in yellow flowers.

Alaa Deeb, a Muslim mother of four boys, an educator and businesswoman, still sees the good in most people amidst the hate that some are spreading.

Alaa said, “May Allah protect all humanity at this time. There is a little sign of some hope from our neighbors in the town where I grew up in Missouri, very wonderful to see. There is still a lot of khayr (good) in people.”
