Nowadays, advanced technology allows you to see what is going on inside a hospital, a business, a restaurant or an airport. Employers and business owners should, therefore, ensure that customers get the right service and feel satisfied. They should employ high standards of customer satisfaction and create a working environment that is conducive to meeting the needs of staff and customers alike.

There should be some unified work philosophy that all Saudi employers apply in the work environment. A positive work philosophy will encourage employees to perform well and feel relaxed. There will be no fear of accountability.

I will give you an example of such an environment. Southwest Airlines, which is American, is one of the best companies to offer a premium customer service. It focuses on developing staff skills, trains them and ensures that what they have learned will be reflected in their performance. The company does not care about a candidate’s qualifications or expertise as much as it focuses on his or her ability to learn new things and skills.

The entire work philosophy is based on customer service as if the company’s motto was that the customer comes first and foremost. Any new candidate who joins the company has no choice but to learn and apply the company’s work philosophy and treat all customers as VIPs. Because of this efficient philosophy, customer loyalty increases day after day. In fact, customers are treated as if they were relatives or close friends and their social and psychological circumstances are taken into consideration.  They are also invited to attend events held by the company. If a flight gets delayed, the company entertains passengers to ensure that they do not get upset.

Saudi businesses and organizations should follow suit and consider customer service a top priority. Displaying a sign that says: “Your satisfaction is our top priority” at the company entrance while the company’s customer service is poor does not make sense. It is easier said than done, but actions speak louder than words. The work philosophy in our companies should be improved.
