‫WHEN winter comes, many people use heaters that utilize electricity, gas or kerosene. Some burn wood to keep warm despite this being dangerous and potentially leading to other illnesses if exposed to cold air. I do not know why people use heaters or burn wood to keep warm. Maybe this makes them feel cozy and allows them to come together to enjoy themselves.‬

‫What is unfortunate is that accidents often occur during winter due to the use of heaters. Hardly a day passes without news of a fire or an electrical short circuit related to the use of heaters. These occurrences will continue to happen as long as people do not follow safety measures and precautions. Because of their lack of awareness, many people sleep with the heater on at night, not knowing that the heater emits poisonous monoxides into the air that can lead to suffocation or death. These people think that the heater is the only and best option for keeping warm during the winter. This is incorrect. The best way is to put on some heavy clothes, mittens and socks.‫ ‬‬

It appears that the majority of people are unaware of the negative effects of heaters. They do not know that heaters reduce humidity and make the air dry, causing illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis and nosebleeds. Dry air has a harming effect on the bones and muscles and can lead to rheumatic diseases, lower back pain and neck spasms.

The relevant authorities must increase public awareness about the safe measures people should take during the winter to keep warm. They should focus their campaigns on the importance of drinking hot drinks, wearing winter clothes and using heavy blankets.
