JEDDAH — The Ministry of Labor and Social Development has forced a company in the Eastern Province to pay delayed salaries of 276 workers belonging to different nationalities.
Officials in the ministry’s Eastern Province branch asked the company to transfer the money to the workers’ bank accounts.
The officials obliged the company to transfer its workers to its headquarters in Jeddah in preparation for moving their work location and also to repatriate those who want to return home permanently.
The officials intervened after the ministry’s office in Al-Khobar received complaints from the workers, who said they had not been paid for months.
The workers went on a strike and refused to return to work until all their salary dues are paid.
Saeed Al-Ghamdi, general manager of the labor office in the Eastern Province, said officials from the ministry held talks with company representatives and obliged them to pay all outstanding salary dues to the workers and take them back to work.
