RIYADH — A Saudi family has organized a farewell party for their Ethiopian housemaid who worked with them for four years and had to go back home finally for personal reasons.

The family, according to Al-Riyadh newspaper on Wednesday, described their housemaid as a role model of loyalty and dedication.

The family members agreed to organize the farewell party in the presence of a number of their relatives and friends who all appreciated her good manners and fine treatment of everyone.

Um Mufleh Al-Balawi, the housewife, said addressing the housemaid: “You have served our family with sincerity and dedication. We wished so much that you could spend many more years with us.”

The housewife said her maid’s personal circumstances back home obliged her to leave though they did not have enough of her.

“You have left behind a good impression about expatriate housemaids who are keen to make a honorable living in the Kingdom,” she said.

Al-Balawi said during the farewell party, her maid was showered with gifts, including gold, money and roses. “This was in appreciation of what she has done for us,” she said.

  1. Very good Example for a house maid .. and as well a big salute to the sponsors who did a big party for the maid…

    • this is the culture of Islam…and Islam is humanity

Prophet pbuh said: Anyone who looks after and works for a widow and a poor person is like a warrior fighting for Allah?s cause, or like a person who fasts during the day and prays all night. (Bukhari)

  2. Big thank you for the respected Saudi family and salute for the honest fellow Ethiopian for being an ambassador of honesty and dedication.

  3. You should ALWAYS treat others how you want to be treated and that is with kindness, patience, understanding, and dignity!

  4. A very good combination of loyalty, sincerity, dedication and compassion on both sides. These days its a rare phenomena that happens just like the Halley’s comet.

It certainly gives hope and inspires others to follow the same.

  5. One in a million. I can never understand why can’t other Muslims be kind to others just like this family are?

  6. That’s good representation of Africa. We are proud of her and the family for giving her a send-off in Islamic way.

  7. Isn’t that the way it should be? Following through with one’s contract on both sides and being polite and kind toward each other when finishing the contract.Let their example be an example for all to follow.May Allah make us all strive to be better human beings today ,tomorrow and for always. Ameen

  8. Mashallah may Allah swt Reward them and forgive those Arab Muslim brothers and sisters who torture, mistreat and kill their African maids.

  9. I wish every family in the Kingdom will be like them…may God bestow HIS blessings upon this family…and pray that people in the Kingdom will treat with kindness those that belong to other FAITH….

  10. this is what all human being has to do if believe in God.but i must say this maid is so lucky because this happen some times only. may God bless this family

  11. This is marvelous. May God Bless that family, they have acted differently from what we hear. When our girls leave Kenya, we are happy when we see them alive from Saudi Arabia. This must set an example to change the perception.

  12. That is one of the few examples of a Saudi family that is Allah fearing. Allah bless this family for treating the housemaid like a fellow human being and respecting her rights. May you be an example to the other 99.9% of Saudis families who treat their workers like slaves and less than human beings!

  13. I AM HAPPY THAT I READ THIS FIRST AS I OPENED SAUDI GAZETTE.HERE IS A POOR WOMAN WHO CAME TO SAUDI BECAUSE OF HER POVERTY, AND IT WAS ALLAH WHO GAVE HER THIS FAMILY..THIS
GOES TO PROVE THAT THERE ARE MUSLIMS,WHO TREAT THEIR SERVANTS AS ALLAH COMMANDS.MOST OF THE TIME WE HEAR OF CRUEL MAIDS AND INHUMAN EMPLOYERS.
I PRAISE AND THANK ALLAH AND MAY HE MULTIPLY THE HALAL EARNINGS OF THE MAID,
AND ALSO BLESS THE SAUDI FAMILY THAT DID ALL THIS FOR THE MAID. LET US ALL TAKE
A LESSON FROM THIS STORY. THIS IS WHAT ISLAM IS ABOUT. ALLAHU AKBAR !!!

  14. Yes, in every community good & bad people lives. This is the rarest case & should appreciate. it can refer as good luck of maid also in out of 100 one maid got this type of soft nature sponsor, If sponsor follow Islamic knowledge little bit, he/she behave with servants as family member, servants also don’t want to leave them & want to continue.

  15. THIS NOBLE GESTURE FROM A NOBLE SAUDI WOMEN REMINDS ME OF SAUDI CULTURE THAT OUR ELDERS AND GREAT GRAND PARENTS TALK ABOUT. I HOPE AND PRAY THAT ALL SAUDIS WILL REVIVE THIS TRADITION AND SET EXAMPLES FOR OTHER COUNTRIES TO FOLLOW

  16. Two years ago, my spouse and I carried out a research on fellow Ethiopian maids who served in the Middle East. The outcome of the study was so frightening. More than three-fourth of the maids we were able to interview complained about the bad treatment they received in the Middle Eastern countries.

However, stories like this one shows that things change. More and more should be done by families in the Middle East to prove maids of all nationalities are not abused and treated alike.

If a maid serves well, let her be rewarded. If she doesn’t, let her not be abused. Let her be sent back to her country of origin.

If she commits crime, let the government handle the complaints. Don’t try to take the law into your own hands. Don’t beat her; don’t throw her off a balcony; don’t burn her alive; or don’t let her go hungry.

God is always there to reward us for the good things we do for each other. The Al-Balawi family gets the reward for setting good example for others.

  17. Balawi family provided gift to their house maid for her sincere and dedication work.Really it shows magnanimous and I appreciated Mr Balawi family for their generosity.

  18. one in million. She is a very good example. Let all the housewife and the so-called arab ladies follow the example set by Al- Balawi. Most of the Saudi women treat their housemaid especially from asian countries in a most inhuman manner, not fearing Almighty Allah; they will be questioned in the day of Qiyamah as to how did they treat their maids. Let them fear Allah when treating their servants.

  19. i have a question, all of you are praising the story, i agreed too but have you people ever condemn the sad stories, all of you know that what i am talking about, in open words abusing women, labor and all other behaviors, all of you know that what’s going on here, this is an exceptional case and every one is claiming that this is the humanity, where is humanity when all other women abused at homes, and we have seen lots of videos as well, no one will reply to that, the problem with us is that we are slaves and always be salves,

  20. Alhamdullillah that’s a great job done by both side. Allah bless them and forgive their sins.
And teach us to follow commands of ALLAH, they way edified by Prophet Mohammad S.W.S

    • When such abusive cases come to light, it should be taken up by newspapers like this Saudi Gazette, and also on social media, results are bound to come out.
