Jeddah — Five students from Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz University (KAU) won awards for their innovative technology at the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland.

Three students won gold medals and two others won silver and bronze each, beating out other participants from 40 countries from five continents.

The invention exhibition of Geneva is considered as the biggest event in the world to be exclusively devoted to inventions where new techniques, products and ideas are presented to industrial and commercial companies and international organizations.

The five-day 45th International Exhibition of Inventions, which concluded on Sunday, was held under the patronage of Swiss Federal Government and World Intellectual Property Organization

“Indeed it’s a matter of pride that our students have proven their innovative technology to the world,” said Abutaleb Omar Alsayed, faculty of engineering at King Abdulaziz University.

He told Saudi Gazette that King Abdulaziz University has been endeavoring to exhibit its innovative ideas to the world by participating in such world-famous events.

He said that Maher Abdul Rahman Al-Juhani, Mishal Ali Hamad and Zaher Saleh Al-Hayani, all three from the College of Engineering, were awarded gold medals while Abdulaziz Abdullah Al-Khudairi of College of Science won silver medal and Emad Morya of engineering college won bronze.

Congratulating the students on their achievement, Abdul Rahman Al-Ayoubi, reactor of King Abdulaziz University, said in a statement that the recognition of students is an achievement for the Kingdom as per its vision for future.

King Abdulaziz University was ranked as number one by a US firm on the list of the best Arab world universities.

Its engineering faculty has over 75 labs, numerous centers of excellence and academic support programs to keep its students in the forefront of innovation and creativity.
