RIYADH — An Asian street cleaner in his 50s did not realize that a sarcastic comment about him on social media would result in an outpouring of support and make him rich in a matter of hours.

The man, Nuzroul Abdul Karim from Bangladesh, was photographed looking at gold on display at a jewelry shop.

A social media user mocked him and uploaded the photo, captioned: “This is as far as you can go. You can only look at the garbage.”

Saudis were hurt by the unkind comment.

A businessman with the Twitter handle @ensaneyat began a campaign to look for Abdul Karim.

He sent out a tweet which was retweeted 6000 times and in about three hours the Bangladeshi cleaner was finally located.

Abdul Karim received six expensive gold jewelry items and seven mobile phones in addition to cash as gifts from Saudis.

He said he had no knowledge of what was happening on social media until some of his colleagues told him about it.

He said he would give the jewelry and the mobile phones to his wife and four children (three boys and a girl).

Abdul Karim was extremely moved by the support of the Saudis. He said he would take permission from his company to go to Makkah to perform Umrah to thank Allah for His bounties and also to appreciate the kindness and generosity of the Saudi people.

Citizens said that the person who uploaded Abdul Karim’s photo with racist comment did not represent Saudis who are known for their kindness and generosity.

  1. Really we have to thank the Saudi government and also saudi people for giving us permission to living here and give chance to earn a living for our families back home.

  2. It’s great to see people giving gifts etc., but they need to remember there’s a huge population of cleaners out there in worst conditions who could benefit from gifts or money. Ideally someone should set up a fund for these poor workers and the money or gifts should be distributed evenly.

  3. Great news for humanity, yes this true (Citizens said that the person who uploaded Abdul Karim’s photo with racist comment did not represent Saudis who are known for their kindness and generosity)
we want to disclose on the public media, this type of people who can abuse & assault foreign worker in the street. Then other citizen get warning foreign worker coming here for work not for beg. Thanks a lot those who realize this. My Allah bless us all..

  4. Hats off to those Saudis who showered their kindness and generosity on Abdul Karim. May Allah bless them with more prosperity and unprecedented success in life so that they could keep up such noble venture! They have set the best example. This is the true spirit of a true human being and a true Muslim. Kindness and generosity were the core characteristics of our prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him). Any kind act done to our fellow being or even to animals will be rewarded hereafter. Insha Allah! May Allah also guide those who possess and nurture racism and xenophobia, which are abhorrent to Islam and which disintegrate our Muslim society!

If ALLAH want to give us something which we cannot even imagine, He will make ways and bless us with his bounties.
This poor guy who is a street cleaner might have aspired for what he has got now.
I appreciate the sauid citizens who have disowned the saudi who showed racism on social media.
May ALLAH show mercy and show right directions to all who are insulting the relegion by their mindless behaviour and activities.

  9. Thanks to these people who have come forward to combat a Mockery and generous support for a Human Being. Now Abdul Kareem and his whole family will pray to ALLAH SWT for these generous people. All the TV channels and News papers of Bangladesh have already covered the story of Abdul Kareem. We are also very much encouraged.

  10. “Citizens said that the person who uploaded Abdul Karim’s photo with racist comment did not represent Saudis who are known for their kindness and generosity”. Yes, an ex-expatriate who lived in KSA, I fully agree. This article made my day. I also second the thoughts shared by arabnight. May this (the kindness and generosity) of the Arab people never fade.

  11. Why not Saudis are known for their generosity and kindness. Muslim world has got benefitted to a great extent from this Kingdom. I really admire these people. They possess many good traits which many of us don’t have. Thank you.

This is the lessons of Islam and teach us our Beloved Prophet Mohammed Peace be upon him

  14. I’m not surprized at all for a simple reason that Allah can make a poor rich, honestly i mean, not in beting, in few hours. Wd have an example here. He can also make a rich poor instantly. We have to keep this in mind all the time.

  15. This is what Islamic teaching requires from us Muslims; May Allah bless us all; also, may Allah accept the good deeds of those philanthropist Saudis.

  16. I appriciate, but at the same time everyone out there commentting and bragging on twitter “2000 from my side”, “find him I will purchase gold for him” and likewise should avoid showing off…
May ALLAH prevent us from showing off (riya)

  17. May Allah, the Almighty bless Saudi Arabia and its people. These are really very nice people and this type of things shows the clear picture of Islam and a Muslim person.

  18. Saudi Arabia is the heart of healthy world. May Allah protect the Saudis and Saudi Arabia.
I love this country too much..

  19. Arabs are great people. When comes to charity no body can beat them. Islam has moulded them into the best race in the world. Once they believe they will shower their best upon them. May Allah bless them with His rahmah

  20. Every Muslim has generosity and kindness towards others irrespective of their race and religion — no discrimination at all. May Allah Almighty bless us all..

  21. I appreciate the act of generosity, but it is better if you don’t publicize this is for general public praise, it should be purely for the creator, rather then intention to get praised.

  22. I salute the Saudi people for being so kind to the less fortunate people. Surely Allah will continue to shower the good grace to the people who help Mr. Abdul Karim. Really you are truly great and kind people…..

  23. A businessman with the Twitter handle @ensaneyat began a campaign to look for Abdul Karim.
The above comment looks like the businessman is expatriate and came out of his feelings for other expatriates, good. We wish to know who the kind businessman is (name atleast). If at all it is true.

  24. Saudi’s are kind and generous people, I love their hospitality manners. Though some are just provoking negative sides on them but because they don’t know them well. They’ve not been working with them the reason why they just believed what they heard some kinda rumors about them. I had been working here in the Kingdom for almost 9 years now and felt so blessed and happy that I am one of the millions of expats who have given the chance to work in this country.

SAUDI people keep it up the generosity and kindness to the poor people and let the WORLD know how good you are…

LONG LIVE Kingdom of Saudi Arabia…MABUHAY!

  25. My comment is directed to anyone who construes the kindness of the act that was rendered as “showing off”. The person/s who took exerted the time and effort to find Abdul Karim did so we have to assume as Muslims for the sake of He who created us all and not out of pride or arrogance or to gain attention to themselves. As Prophet Muhammad, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, every act is but by intent, and in this case, we have to assume and give the benefit of doubt that the effort to Abdul Karim was for Allah’s sake to right a grievous wrong. It is very saddening to see any professing belief in Allah to resort to the same type of racism we see being demonstrated openly in America as never before in recent times with the election of Donald Trump as president. This cannot be the image that the Kingdom, as evidenced by those who aided Abdul Karim, that kingdom’s citizens wants the world to have of Saudi Arabia.

  26. I salute the Saudi people for being so kind to the less fortunate people. Surely Allah will continue to shower the good grace to the people who help those people. Really you are truly great and kind people

  27. Saudi people are the most generous people.N number of people have benifeted financialy after comming to saudi than the local saudi people them self’s.May allah give barakah to this country and kind generous people.

  28. Indeed, a person uploading Abdul Karim’s photo with racist comments did not represent Saudis. The act of generosity initiated by @ensaneyat further proved the wonderful character traits they possess.

  29. We are all human and brothers and sisters, we must behave such always, that is Islam and Muslims
the followers of final religion perfected by Allah SWT for the whole wide world and Ummah of Rasool Allah PBUH. Allah o Akbar.

  30. Alhamdulillah, All praise to Allah, if not a Muslim, a Saudi for that matter, who else can come to the rescue of a poor man who was mocked by some unjust mind. May Allah shower all his bounties to the man who was mocked at and all those came to help the victim.

  31. Thanks to the person uploaded the photo having a rude comment.
This has given opportunity showcasing humanity. Still we are above all malice , we see the world still beautiful , full of kindness, that’s the teaching of the Qur’an. We learn & practiced in all walks of life .
Have gone all the comments & gifts showered on him as a token of sympathy & protest against any sort of discrimination.
As a Bangladeshi, it heart me that one of my brother is humiliated but overwhelmed with gratefulness that people around instantly objected.
Wish these letters be seen by that gentleman.

  32. We are grateful to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for all we have and we earn our bread with respect and dignity and pray to Almighty Allah for this country to prosper so that poor and needy are taken care
