Washington — Iran is responsible for as much as 90 percent of unsafe activities in the Arabian Gulf, according to US Central Command (Centcom) Commander Gen. Joseph Votel.

He expressed concern at Iranian actions in the Arabian Gulf, saying, “Iran’s actions in the Gulf raises concern to us.”

Votel told reporters during a Pentagon press briefing Tuesday that Iran was the only country in the Arabian Gulf which commits such “unsafe and unprofessional acts.”

“Iran’s actions in the (Arabian) Gulf are unlike anyone else’s,” he said. “No one else does what they do – go out and drive fast boats toward military vessels. Nobody else does that in international waters.”
Votel said it’s a sign the regime in Tehran is “trying to exert their influence and authority in the region.”

He reiterated concerns that Tehran’s behavior has changed little since the historic signing of the nuclear deal committing the country to curb its nuclear program in exchange for easing sanctions and other benefits. — Agencies
