Cairo — Egyptian security forces arrested five suspects charged with the murder of Saudi Arabian Khalil Al-Omayrini in the capital Cairo.

Among the suspects – whose ages ranging from 19 to 32 – was the mechanic of a car garage in the basement of the building where Omrayrini lived in Cairo.

Based on fingerprints lifted off the scene of the crime, the security forces concluded that the motive behind the crime was robbery, with a total of 96,000 Egyptian Pounds and SR4,000 reportedly stolen.

The investigation revealed that the garage owner had joined his friends and decided to rob the Saudi citizen on the day of the murder.

The 47-year-old victim, who was found dead on Tuesday in his apartment in Cairo, is seen in a new video taken during his farewell party at his school before his killing in Egypt.

Khalil, who decided to leave his teaching job, was seen in the sendoff with his students and colleagues saying their goodbyes. His colleagues also brought him a cake, which had his picture with their greeting on it that said: “Thank you Khalil, wish you success.” The story of Omayrini’s killing went viral through a hashtag circulated on twitter in Arabic. — Al Arabiya English
