LONDON — In a written response to Saudi Gazette on the story of “Harrods memo targets GCC customers”, the London-based store denied such targeting was taking place.

“There is no basis to this rumor. Any such acts would be unlawful and these accusations are strongly denied by Harrods,” said Harrods Corporate Affairs Manager Rachel Galvin.

The story circulating in social media on Thursday was that of an internal memo from the Qatari-owned Harrods Store in London instructing staff to collect information on its clients from the UAE, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in a daily report to be referred to department head, according to a report in UAEBARQ online portal.

But Harrods has termed this story as baseless. — SG
