Cold weather increases tent rates at Al-Thumamah Parks

RIYADH — The sands of Al-Thumamah park have turned into tents and houses of hair that spread in the famous park, which is located 40 km north-east of Riyadh.
At the beginning of each winter, the industry of renting camps for entertainer enthusiasts flourishes in the main park in the capital, where investors and workers take advantage of the cold weather. They rent the camps for about SR1,500 per day on weekends, and for half that price during weekdays.
Al-Watan reporter visited Al-Thumamah Park and noted tents that are rented for between SR1,200 and SR1,500 on Thursday and Friday, while the other days the rents range between SR700 and 1,000 depending on the size of the camp, its location and entertainment facilities inside; such as a volleyball court or water games for children and the like.
Ahmed Adam said that for years he has been working in this industry, which lasts about 4 months a year during the cold season, where many young people and families rent camps to enjoy the cool weather.
Citizens though expressed their resentment at the high prices that are sometimes as expensive as five-star hotels, pointing to the importance of price control and obligating camp owners to limit their profit instead of this seasonal exploitation.
