Riyadh — The Shoura Council is scheduled to discuss on Tuesday a recommendation to enable Saudi women to occupy leading posts in the Kingdom’s diplomatic missions abroad.
The Shoura Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee had recommended in a report the necessity to appoint Saudi women at leading postions in the Kingdom’s overseas diplomatic missions.
This recommendation is in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 that supports women, Shoura member Noura Al-Shaban told Sabq online Arabic newspaper on Saturday.
She thanked the Shoura members who tabled this recommendation.
“This recommendation confirms that Saudi women can occupy leading positions as ministers, ambassadors and representatives of the Kingdom at international forums,” she said.
Lawyer Ahlam Al-Shahrani said that there are many Saudi women who have proven their capabilities in many fields.
There are many examples proving this such as the female deputy minister of education.
“We are in need of a female deputy minister of health who can deal with women’s issues as well as with female doctors, nurses and patients,” she told Sabq.
In September, Fatimah Baeshen was appointed as the first female spokesperson for the Saudi Embassy in Washington DC.
Baeshan was a director at the Washington based think tank Arabia Foundation.
She joined the Arabia Foundation after having worked with the Saudi Ministry of Labor and the Saudi Ministry of Economy and Planning in Riyadh between 2014 and 2017.
