‘Learn to Earn’ colorful business expo held at IISR

By Mir Mohsin Ali RIYADH — The Senior Secondary Girls’ Section of International Indian School, Riyadh (IISR) organized a Business Expo recently at their campus with great fervor. The grand event was meticulously chalked out by the senior secondary students of Commerce and Humanities stream, under the able guidance of Asma Shah, principal In charge, the section headmistress and teachers. This event was organized as part of the project work under the curriculum of New Delhi-based Central Board of Secondary Education from the students of Commerce and Humanities section. The key objective was to enable them to put into action their newly-acquired entrepreneur skills. The girls enthusiastically collaborated as a team for their maiden business venture. It was a mega event held with much fanfare and aplomb. Chief Guest Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, deputy chief of mission at the Indian Embassy, inaugurated the event and DCM’s mother Salma Khan was the guest of honour. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony the dignitaries commended the innovative efforts of students and teachers. After the inauguration of business expo, DCM termed the event as “fantastic” after visiting all the stalls while appreciating the girls’ efforts. Special guests, included Dr. Hifzur Rahman Azmi, first secretary at Indian Embassy and observer of Indian schools in the Kingdom, and Nuzhat Rahman, wife of Dr. Hifzur Rahman, IISR Principal & Head of the Institution Dr. S.M. Shaukat Perwez. They, in their own way, lauded and encouraged the participating girls. “This was another effort of the girls section to show commitment to excellence in education, while equipping students with the finest principles of business,” said IISR Principal In Charge Asma Shah. The event was a full house with the active participation of students, teachers and members of the IISR managing committee. More than 25 stalls featured a range of mouth-watering delicacies, cosmetics, accessories and games of skill. The colorful venue witnessed it all — fun, frolic, excitement and competition. The event was mainly designed to give a platform to bring out the creative business ideas of students and also to prepare them to compete in various competitions. “Price is what you pay, value is what you get” was the philosophy taught at the business expo. IISR is affiliated to the CBSE and one of the largest overseas school with nearly 4,000 students in boys section and equal number in girls sections.
