08 Jan 2018
THE Pakistan Citrus Show will be held at the ‘Manuel’ Supermarket, ‘Stars Avenue Mall’ Branch, in Jeddah on Jan. 17 at 6.30 p.m.
Arshad Munir, consular (press) at Consulate General of Pakistan, said in a press statement that the event has been organized to promote the unique delicacy of Pakistani “Kinnow” which is world famous, known for its special taste, freshness and organic qualities (the only no genetically modified mandarin).
He said the Commercial Section of the Consulate General of Pakistan Jeddah has made all preparations for the inauguration and tasting ceremony in collaboration with ‘Manuel’ Supermarket Stars Avenue at King’s Road Jeddah.
Munir added that Kinnow is a prime fruit of Pakistan, which is the sixth largest producer of Kinnow and oranges in the world, with 2.1 million tons produce. Pakistan is also the largest producer of the Citrus Reticula variety (Kinnow), and this unique variety of citrus fruit is indigenous to this part of the world.
He said the soil and climatic conditions in Pakistan have given the Kinnow a unique flavor which distinguishes it from other comparable mandarins grown in the world.
An ideal condition for growing Kinnow includes abundance of water, rich nitrogen content in the soil and relatively cool weather. Winter in the plains of Punjab province provides an excellent atmosphere for this fruit and the resulting fruit is sweet and has a very distinct taste.
Munir elaborated about the event that program will start with the reception of the guests, followed by the arrival of Chief Guest and the official inauguration of the event. There will be a cake cutting ceremony, followed by a tasting of ‘Kinnow’ and the variety of delicacies to be rounded off with a video about Pakistani ‘Kinnow’, he added. — Syed Mussarat Khalil
