25 countries to participate in conference on disability and rehabilitation

RIYADH — The fifth international conference on disability and rehabilitation will be held in Riyadh on April 1-2 and discuss a number of issues that will benefit people with special needs.
Dr. Ali Bin Nasser Al-Adhaib, chairman of the scientific committee of the conference, said about 80 specialists and experts from the Kingdom and 24 other countries will participate in the two-day conference to highlight their experiences with disability and rehabilitation.
He said the conference would discuss the main types of disability including physical, sensual, mental and behavioral disabilities.
In addition to servicing the disabled, the conference is also aimed at boosting the educational and practical standard of the staff serving the people with special needs, he said.
Adhaib said the participants will review the results of their researches in a number of subjects including preventive programs, treatment interventions and new developments in the rehabilitation of people paralyzed by traffic accidents or strokes.
He said the conference will also tackle the use of modern technology in rehabilitation as well as the participation of the private sector.
Ahmed Bin Abdulaziz Al-Yahya, secretary-general of the conference, said King Salman Disability Research Center was exerting strenuous efforts to make the conference a success.
He recalled that the center had organized four such conferences in the past and achieved good results in services being extended to people with special needs.
He said during the conference, the second King Salman Award for the Best Disability Research will be delivered to the winners.
