DUBAI, UAE — Domestic tourism across Saudi Arabia has witnessed a significant increase over the past year. Wego, the top-ranked travel search website and mobile app (sa.wego.com), has seen an increase in searches for hotels across the kingdom, with a 30% increase in total search conducted by Wego users in Saudi Arabia across all the platforms.
In addition to KSA’s traditional destinations, such as Jeddah, which accounted for 20% of Wego searches, Makkah and Madinah with 17%, and Riyadh (15%), figures showed that hotels in Taif, Abha, Yanbu, Jazan, Al Baha and Buraidah got Wigoo users interest as suitable vacation spots over the past year.
“In recent years, Saudi Arabia's domestic tourist destinations have been strikingly visible in our market. Alongside Jeddah, which has taken the lead last year in search lists of KSA hotels thanks to its charming beaches and traditional bazaars, and Mecca and Madinah due to their religious status, the kingdom has other attractive destinations; Red Sea and Arabian Gulf beaches, high mountain ranges in the south-west, as well as ecosystems’ diversity. These facts, and more, turn the Kingdom into a touristic destination worthy of exploration”, says Mamoun Hmedan, Wego Managing Director of MENA and India.
