MAKKAH — More than 10,000 homes in Makkah area have been visited recently by the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) safety team with more than 14,000 hours of work of experienced Saudi engineers and technicians. This effort comes within the SEC community responsibility for electrical safety and community awareness of ensuring the conformity of the electrical installations and connections with standard specifications to avoid accidents and fires. The company has launched an awareness campaign for electrical safety in homes in the Makkah area entitled Electricity Safety in Our Homes that includes awareness visits to thousands of houses in the area to raise the family awareness of electrical safety standards, and to promote a culture of safety within the whole society. The company has allocated more than 50 experienced Saudi engineers and technicians to carry out awareness and educational tours of the importance of electrical safety in line with the SEC campaign (@sec_safety) launched last year, which provides a range of tips, alerts and guidelines to raise the community awareness of electrical safety. SEC has stressed that the campaign comes within the framework of its social responsibility programs and the implementation of awareness campaigns throughout the year around the Kingdom. This initiative aims to educate families and individuals in the field of electrical safety and raising awareness of the dangers of electricity. The company said that awareness guidance and technical reports have been provided for 10,000 homes and more than 2.3 million awareness messages were sent to beneficiaries. It seeks to increase the number of targeted homes in its awareness programs throughout the year in all regions of the Kingdom, and beyond the numbers in the initial plans. The tours of SEC teams have provided awareness-raising instructions, technical reports on electrical conductivity, household safety and the means and controls to be observed to avoid risks of negative uses of electricity. The company pointed out that the initiative includes interviewing family members at home, providing guidance and educational advice, distributing more than 12,000 educational awareness leaflets, checking and inspecting electrical wiring throughout the house, raising awareness of the dangers of electrical wiring that does not conform with safety specifications, and a simplified explanation of the best ways to benefit from the electrical service in a safe manner. The campaign is part of the Makkah Cultural Forum to support community efforts in accordance with the comprehensive development vision of the Makkah Region, including the How to Set an example initiative to provide cultural programs, unique knowledge events and awareness-raising activities. The SEC sponsors dozens of community and awareness-raising events annually to support safety standards in various cities and regions of the Kingdom as part of its efforts for the advancement of the community and raising awareness among its members about electrical safety and disease control in addition to sponsoring several charities to enhance awareness of the value and importance of social, volunteer and charity work to enhance its role in providing integrated work to its beneficiaries. — SG
