RIYADH — The body of an Egyptian national who died when the debris of a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi militias fell on his house will be flown home. He will be buried in Al-Hamoud village in Qina town in the south of Egypt according to his family’s wish.
Abdul Mutalib Ahmed Hussain, 37, died of bleeding and damage to his chest when the roof of his house in Um Al-Hamam neighborhood of Riyadh fell on him.
The single-story house has been accommodating a number of Egyptian workers including Abdul Mutalib's brother Mohammed Ahmed Hussain and other relatives.
Two other Egyptians were injured and rushed to King Saud Medical City for treatment.
The injured Egyptians are the cousins of the deceased. They have been identified as Tariq Abu Talib and Shihab Mahmoud Hussain.
The occupants of the house said around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday while they were preparing to sleep, they heard a loud sound coming from above followed by the crumbling of a chunk of the roof.
They said they rushed to the room where Abdul Mutalib and three of his roommates were staying. But they could not enter because of heavy smoke and a foul smell.
They took Mohammed, who was injured in the head, and two others out of the room, but could not move Abdul Mutalib due to the heavy smoke that filled the entire room and the bad smell coming from the missile’s debris.
They called the Civil Defense, which immediately arrived at the scene, transported the injured to hospital and carried Abdul Mutalib's body out of the room.
Abdul Mutalib, who was born in 1979, came to the Kingdom for work about three years ago. He is survived by his wife, a six-year-old son, a four-year-old daughter and a baby girl whom he had not seen.
The residents of the neighborhood said they felt the earth shaking under their feet and saw the debris of the missile falling on some areas.
They said some debris fell on Malaqa district in the north of Riyadh and others fell in a desert area creating a crater.
The debris of the missile also fell on some areas in Al-Qirawan district in north Riyadh shattering glasses in a number of houses and causing minor damages.
Egyptian Ambassador to the Kingdom Nasser Hamdi and a number of embassy officials visited the injured in hospital.
Deputy Emir of Riyadh Prince Mohammed Bin Abdul Rahman also visited the injured and conveyed to them the best wishes of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.
