RIYADH — The Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces have successfully intercepted and destroyed a Houthi militia-launched ballistic missile heading toward Najran, the splinters of which scattered on residential neighborhoods of the city, Col. Turki Al-Malki, the official spokesman of the Coalition Supporting the Legitimacy in Yemen, announced.
Al-Malki added that they had not yet received any reports on whether human or property losses occurred, Saudi Press Agency quoted him as stating on Friday night.
In his statement, Al-Malki explained that at 09:32 on Friday evening, the Coalition air defense forces detected the launch of a ballistic missile from Saada, inside Yemen, heading toward Saudi Arabia.
He said the missile was heading for the Saudi southern city of Najran. Randomly launched by the Houthi militias, the missile was targeting civil and populated areas, he added.
He stated that the missile was intercepted and destroyed by the Saudi Royal Air Defense, with the fragments scattering over residential districts, with reports of human losses or damage to properties yet to be ascertained.
This hostile and random action by Houthis is yet another evidence of the continuation of the Iranian regime’s support to the armed Houthis by boosting their qualitative capabilities, a flagrant challenge to the UN resolution No. 2216 and No. 2231 and a move aiming to threaten the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the regional and international security. — SPA
