WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump on Sunday said Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad will have a “big price to pay” for launching a deadly chemical weapons attack on civilians, and blamed Iran and Russian President Vladimir Putin for backing “animal Assad.”
“Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria. Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
“President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad. Big price to pay,” he wrote.
One of Trump’s top homeland security advisers said on Sunday the Unites States will not rule out launching a missile attack in response to new reports about the chemical attack.
“I wouldn’t take anything off the table,” White House Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Adviser Thomas Bossert said in an interview on ABC’s “This Week.”
“We are looking into the attack at this point,” he said, adding that the photos of the incident are “horrible.”
Kingdom condemns attack
An official source at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s deep concern and strong condemnation of the atrocious chemical attack on Douma town of Eastern Ghouta, killing scores of civilians, including children and women.
The source reaffirmed the necessity of stopping these tragedies and pursuing a political solution based on the agreed upon principles of Geneva 1 Declaration and UN Security Council resolution 2254.
The official source emphasized the importance of the international community to protect civilians in Syria. — Agencies
