MAKKAH — Pilgrims and visitors of Makkah go to Hira Cave on top of Jabal Al-Noor (Mountain of Light) in Makkah to remember the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet used to go to the cave and spend days in seclusion before the Revelation of the Holy Qur’an was made to him by the angel Gabriel.



The mountain lies north east the Grand Mosque and overlooks Al-Adal neighborhood. On top, one can clearly see the cave where the Prophet used to spend most of his days before the Qur’an was revealed to him. Inside the cave, there is a small opening through which one can see the Kaba’a and the Grand Mosque. Hira Cave is about 3.7 meters long and 1.6 meters wide.



Pilgrims and visitors of all ages climb the rugged terrain of the mountain to get to the top. Ahmad Mabrook, a pilgrim, said he climbed the mountain in less than an hour. He was captivated by the overview of Makkah and its mountains and valleys.
