TETRA Pak, the world leader in food processing and packaging solutions, has appointed Amar Zahid as President for the Greater Middle East and Africa (GME&A). Based in Dubai, Zahid will be responsible for the company’s operations across these geographies, working closely with its regional offices and maintaining Tetra Pak’s leadership position in the market.
A veteran of the company, having joined Tetra Pak in 1994, Zahid rose to the position of Regional General Manager of Tetra Pak Arabia in 2003 and Managing Director of the same region in 2007. In 2010, Zahid moved beyond the Middle East to assume the role of Managing Director for Tetra Pak’s operations in Japan, as well as President of Northeast Asia and Oceania where he was responsible for a number of markets in that region.
Zahid’s return to the Middle East comes as Tetra Pak completes a global restructuring of its geographic market clusters into five key regions. The expanded Greater Middle East & Africa region, comprising 72 countries and a population of more than 1.64 billion, offers both continued business success and significant growth potential for Tetra Pak. The undisputed market leader in GME&A, Tetra Pak operates five manufacturing plants and 21 sales offices in the region, with current output of more than 28 billion packages per year.
Commenting on his appointment, Zahid said: “There is no doubt that this region presents some of the biggest opportunities for Tetra Pak globally, and I look forward to working with our teams here to build on the success already achieved. Our track record in the region is well established, with many of our customer partnerships extending well into their third decade. We have enjoyed and delivered sustained growth through new product innovation and increased efficiencies in operation, and will continue to do so.”
Tetra Pak will participate in Gulfood Manufacturing, a highly-focused global trade exhibition for the food & beverage production industry, that will be held on Nov. 9-11, 2014 at the Dubai World Trade Centre under the theme “Innovation for Growth”.
