JEDDAH — The Urdu Academy Jeddah recently organized a literary program dubbed “Aoa Urdu Seikhien (Let’s learn Urdu) here. This initiative to promote the Urdu language was a follow-up of their event in the first quarter for this year.
The program was organized to mark the occasion of the Saudi National Day. The organizers had supplied study material to Urdu lovers earlier, including information about Saudi Arabian history and culture, a number of incomplete poetic verses (adhoore sher), commonly used Urdu proverbs, difficult Urdu words used and a literary joke cutting session.
A computerized quiz program was designed by Fouad Anwar and presented by Shamsuddin Quadri Mustafa & Danish Khalid Hussain, members of Urdu Academy Jeddah.
All participants were given cards with serial numbers at the entrance and in order to give a chance to all participants, one person was allowed to take part in a particular category, only. And in case of several attendees raising their hands to answer, the person holding the lowest number on the card was allowed to answer. Upon giving a correct answer, the winner was instantly awarded a prize. More than 70 participants took part in the quiz. Earlier, after the recitation of a verse from the Holy Qur’an by Muqeem, Abdul Rahim presented a Naat.
In the inaugural address, program coordinator Khalid Husain paid rich tribute to King Abdulaziz, who unified the country in 1932 and highlighted the Saudi’s rich culture and traditions. Urdu Academy Jeddah President Jamal Quadri displayed a power point presentation of Urdu Academy Jeddah’s activities here and in Hyderabad, India.
A student of IISJ Hadia Masood Siddiqui presented the famous poem of Lata Haya “Subah ka pehla payam hai Urdu” (The first implication of the morning is Urdu).
Arif Masood Siddiqui mesmerized the audience with humorous poetries of famous poets like Sulaiman Khateeb, Adil Lucknawi etc. The similitude poetries in the voices of those famous poets were much liked and applauded by the audience.
Quadri conducted the quiz on Saudi history & culture, “Adhoore Sher (Incomplete Verses)” was conducted by Aslam Afghani, the humorous joke session by Nasir Khursheed. Quiz for meanings of difficult Urdu words, idioms and some other sessions were conducted by Mohammed Faheem.
Prominent members of the community were present. The program was well organized by Syed Jamal Quadri, Mohd. Abdul Salam and Saleem Farooqi, with coordination of Mohammed Faheem, Aslam Afghani, Sami Farooqi, Mohammed Liakath Ali Khan, Shaikh Ibrahim, Rifat Siddiqui, Abdul Sattar, Abdul Moiz, Abdul Sami, Nasir Khurshid and Mohd. Mujahid.
