FRANCE — The Saudi land forces commandos and their French counterparts carried out field training within the Shumrukh 1 exercise in the French Alps.

The participants carried out reconnaissance, on-foot and helicopter exercises. They also climbed steep rock faces to reach their hypothetical target. The soldiers walked for long distances on the mountain heights and in temperatures below 6 degrees Celsius.

Col. Muhammad Ayidh Al-Marzouqi said Shumrukh 1 is an extension of Al-Reek that was held in the Kingdom last year on Shumrukh mountains.

He said the French soldiers benefited from working in a different mountainous environment and different climatic conditions. He said the Saudi soldiers, similarly, are gaining experience in a different environment and climate.
