HAIL – Several mothers assaulted women teachers in Al-Jadeedah elementary school for girls after a student was banned from drinking a soft drink and police were forced to intervene, Al-Sharq daily reported.

Hail Police spokesman Col. Abdulaziz Al-Zenaidi said the mothers began by assaulting one of the teachers because she stopped the student from having the drink in line with Ministry of Education directives.

When other teachers intervened to stop the assault, the mothers also assaulted them and walked out of the school.

“Police has subpoenaed the mothers and their male guardians for questioning and investigations are still under way,” he said.

Hail Educational Directorate has issued a statement emphasizing the importance of respecting the laws and regulations of the ministry and that schools have a certain sanctity that should be respected by everybody.

The directorate said all communication channels are open for students and their parents to complain about any matter in the school, adding that the directorate takes complaints seriously.

The directorate said: “After the incident, the directorate cooperated closely with the police in conducting the investigation and find suitable solutions to similar incidents.

“In addition, a committee of women educators was set up to review the incident and recommend means and ways to avoid a repeat.”
