The Abu Dhabi Film Festival (ADFF) unveiled the line-up for its 2014 edition that takes place from October 23 to November 1. 197 films from 61 countries will be showcased from participants across all categories. The festival will be held at Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace and Vox Cinemas Marina Mall.
ADFF will open, with Emirati director Ali Mostafa’s locally produced film – ‘From A to B’. ADFF announced collaboration with Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation/ World Cinema Project (WCP).
Two newly restored international masterworks– Sergei Parajanov’s ‘The Color Of Pomegranates’ and Lino Brocka’s ‘Manila In The Claws Of Light’– will be digitally restored in 4K resolution by the Cineteca di Bologna/L’Immagine Ritrovata and The Film Foundation/World Cinema Project and screened with English and Arabic subtitles, during the festival.
“Cinema is an international language and ADFF strives to bring about enthusiasm, variety and a celebration of this universal form of expression. We are delighted to be collaborating with WCP to present these landmark films from Armenia and the Philippines as part of our strong commitment towards the global cause of film preservation and restoration. Each film is a cinematic revelation depicting a culture seldom seen by audiences on-screen,” said Ali Al Jabri, Festival Director.
ADFF will also host the Child Protection Award in partnership with the Child Protection Center of the Ministry of Interior.
The competing categories include the Narrative Competition, New Horizons Competition, Documentary Competition, Short Film Competition and Emirates Film Competition. The non-competitive special programs include The Arab Diaspora through ‘Truffaut: The Man Who Loved Cinema’ and ‘Restored Classics.’
Disney’s animation film ‘Big Hero 6’ will close the festival on November 1. ADFF has showcased local and international talent in the film industry since its initiation in 2007.
