HAIL – Eight marriage contracts were annulled last year on the basis of marital incompatibility, said Majed Al-Adwan, director of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for the Development of the Legal System, Al-Watan daily reported.

A marriage can be rendered incompatible between the spouses due to religious, moral, social as well as financial factors.

Quoting the Ministry of Justice marriage and divorce indexes, Al-Adwan also said Riyadh courts accounted for six divorces of this kind while Makkah and Dammam accounted for each of the remaining two divorces.

The ministry’s statistics registered 54 divorce cases all over the Kingdom last year due to the non-consummation of marriage while child custody cases reached 10,000 for the same year. A total of 554 women filed divorce cases because of the bad conduct of their husbands while 100 men divorced their wives for the same reason.

As for marriage contracts registered last year, the ministry’s marriage index indicated that 102,757 marriages took place all over the country compared to 30,000 divorces.

Al-Adwan said the ministry’s statistics were more accurate than those published in newspapers over two weeks ago that claimed that there were far more divorce cases last year than those claimed by the ministry. – SG
