Toys are things or objects to play with. Every one of you must have toys and even want more of them. Girls like to play with dolls, doll houses, cutleries, and boys have action figures, cars, spinning top etc. Playing with toys is enjoyable and you are able to learn the fun way.
Do you know toys are as old as history itself? Children loved to play with toys even back in the days when there was no television or even a telephone. They have always played with toys whether they were born thousand years ago or last year. You can ask your parents or grandparents about the toys they played with and you can see the difference.
In olden times, toys were not manufactured in great quantity as they are now, so earlier most children played with whatever they would find at home, such as a piece of wood, a pine or even a leaf.
Before the 20th Century children had few toys, and they were expensive as well. Thousands of years ago Egyptian children played with toys, specifically dolls made from wood, stone and pottery. The puzzle, which you play today, was first made in Greece around the third century. It definitely sounds ancient. Another interesting thing related to toys in Greece is that when girls were about to get married, they had to sacrifice their toys to their Gods as a sign of adulthood.
Toys are of many shapes and sizes. They have just changed over time the way they look and the material they are made of. Earlier, toys were usually heavy as they were made of wood, mud and porcelain, but nowadays different and light materials are used. With time, as more industries were built, toys started producing in large quantities.
Softs toys such as teddy bear was made in 20th century. So now you know how old your teddy bear is. Did you know ‘Teddy bear’ was named after an American President Teddy Roosevelt?
Lego toys were invented back in 1950’s and Skateboard was invented in 1958.
