Eliminate exit/re-entry visas

I am writing with regard to the article “Expats may get iqamas renewed for 5 years” (Nov. 25). This would be a good initiative as it will give peace of mind and security to both employers and employees.

I am writing with regard to the article “Expats may get iqamas renewed for 5 years” (Nov. 25). This would be a good initiative as it will give peace of mind and security to both employers and employees. However, I highly recommend that a longer period should be granted for exit/re-entry visas and that multiple exit/re-entry visas also should be implemented or that exit/re-entry visas should be totally eliminated just like in the UAE where there is no concept of exit/ re-entry and anyone with a passport and a valid visa can enter and leave country at anytime. This is especially important during an emergency, such as the death of a close relative.

This is good news. The exit/re-entry visa concept should be cancelled and all that should be required is a valid visa when entering the country. Expat children should be able to leave for study and come back to Saudi Arabia whenever they need to.  The validation of iqamas (residence permits) is sufficient; there is no need for further visa validation.
