JEDDAH — A long-time expatriate from the subcontinent and a well-known figure in the Indian and Pakistani communities here, Syed Shah Mohammed Ismail Hussaini Qadri, died here after protracted illness on Monday. He was suffering from cancer and was being treated at King Abdulaziz University Hospital.



Better known to his acquaintances as “Haji Pasha”, Qadri was laid to rest in the Eve Graveyard in Al-Amarriyah District on Tuesday after Asr prayer. Hundreds of his friends and admirers were present at the funeral prayers offered in Palestine Mosque, Al-Rehab District.



Haji Pasha was in Jeddah for over four decades and worked for Saudi Brothers Company for more than 22 years. He is survived by his widow, two sons and two daughters. His eldest son Syed Mohammed Aziz  is vice president of the International Indian School Jeddah Alumni Association (IISJAA).
