JEDDAH —  “Fast Forward” is part of the Jeddah-based “21,39” series of art exhibitions and showcases the history of art in Saudi Arabia from 1960 until 2014.

The event is to also receive visitors from schools this month.

The purpose of the exhibition is to educate visitors about the history of art by providing them with information, images, and collateral materials that can be documented in a much-needed archive.

The work of several Saudi artists is presented in the exhibition, such as Bakr Sheikhoun and Safiya Bin Zigr.

The exhibition is shedding the light more on the artwork of current events rather than the artists themselves.

Several pictures of Corniche sculptures are presented at the exhibition as well as a few small pieces of artwork and sculptures.

Some of the Saudi kings’ pictures and documents are also shown in the exhibition.

Fast Forward can be considered an announcement of the start of research into the history of visual art infrastructure and practices in the Kingdom.

This exhibition aims to educate students about art history in the Kingdom and change their perceptions of art.

Hani Maki, exhibition supervisor, said: “Students from grade one until the high school will come in school trips.

“Since they are part of the iPad generation, they will find out more about Saudi Art history and how those artists made these pieces.

“They will know more about the old generations.

“This is the second year students have come to this exhibition.

“Last year students from French schools came and found out more about the history of the Saudi artists and their work.

“In this year's event, we also have a section where students can find out more about the artists’ backgrounds and their work.”

Shaza Salem, a 15-year-old student, said: “I visited the exhibition last year.

“I think it is fun to have a school trip to ‘Fast Forward’.

“The exhibition will educate students about their history.”

Rana Rozi, a 14-year-old student, said: “I think it would be great to visit the place.

“The exhibition will give you the chance to see wonderful art pieces that are creations by incredible artists.”

Parents also believe it is important students visit this exhibition as it would enrich their way of thinking.

Fauzia Khoisan, a Saudi mother, said: “It would enrich the kids in so many ways since art is a wonderful way of expressing yourself.”

The exhibition runs until April 30.
