The human body is truly amazing. It is always at work; amazing things are always taking place. Even when you are resting, just sitting around doing nothing, your body is actually doing a lot of work.
Your heart beats around 100,000 times a day, every day.
When your heart pumps blood, it takes about 20 seconds for the blood to circulate through the whole body. That is pretty quick!
If you want to imagine how big your heart is, make a fist with your hand. Your heart is about the same size as the fist of your hand.
The brain can process information at a fast speed, equal to 120 meters per second, or 268 miles per hour.
Your brain is always active, even when you are asleep. And because the brain is always working, it needs oxygen at all times. If the brain goes for more than 6 minutes without oxygen, the brain will be damaged.
When you sleep, it is normal to have around 4 dreams each night, but most times you do not remember those dreams.
The human eye can see about 10 million shades of different colors.
You have a lens in your eye. Without even thinking about it, the lens in your eye changes shape so you can be able to see near and far objects. And the lens in your eye works better than the lens in the best camera ever invented by people.
You probably never thought about it, but your eye blinks for about 15 to 20 times each minute. Each time you blink, you are washing your eye and keeping it moist, which keeps it healthy. If your eye got dry, it would feel very scratchy and painful.
None has to tell your body to breathe to give you oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide, your body just breathes perfectly on its own. Kids breathe around 12 to 25 times each minute, which means your lungs have an important job around the clock, even when you sleep.
Your nose makes life a lot more interesting and fun. Imagine life without ever smelling a rose or brownies out of the oven or perfume or strawberries or hot chocolate – life would be dull! Did you know that the human nose can detect more than 50,000 different types of smells?
l When you enjoy your favorite meal of pizza, orange juice, salad, and then a cookie for desert, your body has a lot of work to do. It takes about 7 hours for your stomach and intestines to fully digest a meal.
God has given you an amazing body. Take care of it by thanking God for it, eating healthy foods, exercising, keeping it clean, and going to sleep early every night.
