Saudi prisons should not be luxury hotels

The article “Inmates in terror cases live in luxury” (Mar. 4) is hard to believe.

While Saudis and expats are struggling to feed their children every day, just a few kilometers away, prison inmates are spoiled with luxury and a good income.

They are not receiving a punishment for their crimes against humanity but rather are being rewarded for them.

I hope that during this period of detention inmates get a realistic re-education  to rid their minds of the cruel intentions that they had.

A prison must have functionality, not be a luxury hotel for inmates, political or criminal or whatever.

I find it really hard to believe the facilities, perks and allowances enjoyed by not only the inmates of these prisons but by their visitors as well.

Visitors who come from outside Jeddah receive free air tickets and prisoners who are released to attend weddings receive SR10,000 to buy gifts for their friends and family. No wonder there has never been a case of an inmate escaping from prison!
