JEDDAH – The secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Makkah Hotel in Mogadishu that occurred on March 27. The attack resulted in the deaths of a dozen innocent people including the Somali envoy to the United Nations office in Geneva, Ambassador Yusuf Bari-Bari.



Madani, who expressed profound sadness at the continuing mass murders being committed by the militants, described their actions as cowardly and a negation of all human values. He stressed that Somalis, who have rejected the abhorrent violence of the militants, deserve peace and development in their country.



The OIC secretary-general conveyed his sincere condolences to the Federal Government of Somalia, as well as the family and friends of all those who lost their lives or were injured in the attack.



He further reiterated the firm support and solidarity of the OIC to the Somali authorities in their endeavors to combat terrorism and violent extremism. He also affirmed the Organization’s commitment to support Somalia and the six pillars policy of the Somali Federal Government and to continue OIC’s engagements in Somalia including its humanitarian operations in stabilizing the fellow member state.
