JEDDAH — Eighty Saudi women are ready to enter the job market after benefiting from a project that aims to develop productive families. This “Upper Hand” initiative is funded by Saudi Aramco and implemented by the Faisaliah Charitable Association for Women in Jeddah, which organized many lectures and training courses in sewing and other work for 20 weeks.
These training sessions featured many lectures at the association’s headquarters on the importance of commitment and self-confidence and the development of communication skills for women entrepreneurs.
Officials from the Human Resources Development Fund also gave a presentation on employment in order to educate trainees and enhance their self-confidence.
The cutting and sewing classes, which ran for over three months, aimed to give trainees thorough information on the basics of this art through practical and theoretical sessions.
A beneficiary of the program, Mona Shamsan, said: “I have loved sewing since childhood and I always used to re-design and sew dresses for brides.
“Now, thankfully, I have the opportunity during this program to improve my talent, and I wish to be a fashion designer in the future. God willing I will develop my skills by joining more sessions and try to be an expert in sewing and arts.
The project was launched in March.
