DAEGU — A new metro line will officially open for the benefit of people living in the city of Daegu, South Korea by April 23.



The new metro line, Line 3, cost 1.4282 trillion South Korean Won and has 30 stations; the city is served by another two lines. Line 2, cost around 2.3330 trillion South Korean Won and covers 26 stations.



Work on the line began in 2006 and finished in 2014. Once officially open, the line will operate from 5 a.m. till 12 a.m. and trains will run every four minutes. Line 3 has been built similar to its two predecessors, Line 1 and Line 2. The new line will help reduce traffic in the city and contribute to expanding the city’s tourism infrastructure.



Special glass has been used in windows to ensure users’ safety, according an official in Daegu. Trains will start at Chilgok and after 30 stations over 23.95 km finally stop at Beommul.



The purpose of having this new line is not only to increase the use of the city’s transit system in association with the other two lines, but also make the city a business hub and attract new businesses.



Trains running on the new metro line will operate without humans and will have high-performance devices to detect and deal with fires. The trains also come with parachutes for passengers’ use in case of fire.



The trains will automatically alter their speed in case of bad weather and are designed to withstand winds up to 70 meters per second.



The municipality in Daegu takes health and safety very importantly for both citizens and tourists. The city’s officials aim to develop a high quality system of transport, in light of its focus on attracting tourists through its fashion industry.
