JEDDAH — Currently there are 31 district school clubs around Jeddah that target fulfilling the education and entertainment needs of different segments of society.

Supported by both the education department in Jeddah and King Abdullah Project for the Development of Education, 20 of these clubs cater to the needs of male students and the rest to girls.

Abdullah Al-Thaqafi, director of education in Jeddah, highlighted the role these clubs play. He said they provide different services to students and give them space to develop their skills while engaging in their hobbies. He said this would help them enrich their personalities while passing their free time positively.

Al-Thaqafi was speaking at the annual ceremony of the district school clubs at Ma'an Bin Oday School Monday evening, with more than 200 teachers in attendance.

These clubs, elaborated Al-Thaqafi, provide a safe environment for students and their families and the residents of the districts.

He called on the private sector to invest in these cubs as part of their social responsibility initiatives.

The private sector can contribute by providing training and consultation to develop the skills of the students, he said.

The head of student activities and representative of the clubs, Khalid Ibrahim, said the clubs plan to showcase inventions of the students and develop programs to meet their entertainment needs.

He said these clubs constitute a platform for cooperation between the government and the private sector.
