DUBAI — A woman in Dubai received a massive 257 traffic fines worth a whopping AED 201,140 ($54,763) in just three months, UAE dailies reported on Monday.

The Bangladeshi woman, who received most of the fines for speeding, tops a list of 17 motorists who have amassed more than AED 2 million ($ 544 528) in fines released by Dubai Police on Sunday. The second on the list is a female Syrian driver with fines valuing at AED 186,900 (US$50,886) from 288 traffic offences, while an Egyptian motorist featured third with AED 169,420 ($46,126) from 236 offences.

According to Dubai daily Gulf News, the offending motorists will be shown leniency if they cooperate with officials and will also be allowed to pay the fines in installments. If drivers have more than Dh40,000 worth of fines since May, their vehicles will be confiscated as they will be classed as high-risk, Abu Dhabi newspaper The National reported. — Agencies
