Respect: Give it to get it

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was kind to kids and even to animals. He cared about everyone around him. He didn’t point fingers at anyone, neither talked loud nor angrily. He prayed even for his worst enemies.

  • Ever wondered why your parents stress that you must speak politely and not loudly?

  • Why does your teacher want all of you to form a queue while entering or leaving the class room even though it’s your recess period?

  • Why do elders emphasize not to talk back or in between when they speak?

  • Why is it necessary to keep your anger away when all you feel like doing is fight and scream?

  • Why do we have to give our seat to an elder who is standing?

The answer to all of these ‘whys’ is simple. It is rude. No matter how much the world progresses, it is more important than ever that we learn and apply the values and give respect.

It might sound complicated and confusing right now, but imagine what will happen if you stop being polite, break the queue and become a rebellion? Will the world fall apart?

Probably not, but one by one if the whole world starts losing classic values, standards and ethics there may not be any civilized world to live in.

Islam teaches us to be polite, to respect our elders. You are blessed enormously by greeting another Muslim with “Salam alikum” How much strength does it take to say two words? None.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was kind to kids and even to animals. He cared about everyone around him. He didn’t point fingers at anyone, neither talked loud nor angrily. He prayed even for his worst enemies.

“Give respect and be respected” is the golden rule of a good and successful life.  You know you have the strength to argue with your teacher, fight with your siblings, scream at the top of your lungs and never ever feel bad about it. But what will it give you in return?  Remember wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it.

Be kind to everyone even if they have nothing to give you, because it is the right thing to do.

Be considerate.  Others might get hurt with your actions.

Be compassionate. What if others treat you as harshly as you treat them?

Be honest.  Tell the truth about how you feel graciously.

Be open-minded. There are many way of doing things correctly. Find the right one.

Be grateful to the blessings you’ve received. It will bring you satisfaction. Listen to what others have to say and try to understand them.

Help those in need without the expectation of any reward. Share your food, your knowledge and everything else that can be shared.  Love with whole-heartedly and spread the love. Care as if everyone and everything is important. Apologize for the wrong doings and make amends. If you could change the world what would you do and why?
