DHAHRAN — The second series of Shuttler’s Clash tournament organized by Evenlode Badminton Club (EBC) and Dhahran Badminton Association (DBA) at Junior High School and IBIS indoor courts here proved to be a hit.
Over 800 players from all over the Kingdom — Eastern Province, Riyadh, Jeddah, Abha, Yanbu — along with players from Bahrain, Syria, UAE competed in this two-day event.
In the GCC Premier Flight, Jaffer Ebrahim of Bahrain and Ammar Awad of Syria came out on top to claim the doubles trophy beating rivals Salvador Kapunan from Riyadh and Ralph from the Philippines. A superior offensive and defensive strategy of the opponents thrilled the crowd with long rallies which in the end the Arab duo won in close straight sets to claim the title.
In the hotly contested singles match, Jaffer Ebrahim beat Ammar Awad to win the championship. Ladies champions were from the Indian International School Riyadh Sandra Sakaria-Neha Jojo, while the runners-up were Conflor Lumbang and Grace Lumbang of Riyadh.
The mixed doubles crown was won by Ralph Nelson and Josephine Dupet, while Reyan Del Reyes and Margie Joy of Jeddah were runners-up.
EBC President Tony Mathew and DBA President Surendran Nair congratulated the winners and runners-up and thanked the sponsors.
Trophies along with cash prizes were awarded to the winners and runners-up. TOTAL company awarded the trophy and cash prize for the best in uniform to Fun Club Dammam.
During the opening ceremony, EBC presented a memento as a token of appreciation to the representative of Saudi Badminton Federation, Alayan Al-Harbi.
