JEDDAH — An Indian consulate official has been sent to Jazan to get more details about the murder of an Indian youth in Sabia, some 80 km from Jazan city, Indian Consul General B.S. Mubarak told Saudi Gazette on Sunday.

“We have taken this up very seriously,” he said. The news about the killing of 24-year-old Muhammad Tanzibuddin was first reported in a section of the Indian media.

Tanzibuddin succumbed to bullet wounds sustained from shots fired at him by some of his Pakistani co-workers about a fortnight ago.

It was reported earlier that he died of stab injuries. Tanzibuddin and another Pakistani national were injured in the firing.

They were rushed to a hospital in Sabia where Tanzibuddin breathed his last. However, his friend survived the attack.

According to Indian media reports, the family members of Tanzibuddin, who live in Jamshedpur city of Jharkhand state, wrote a letter to Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on Friday seeking her intervention in speedy repatriation of the body.

The body has been lying in the morgue of Sabia General Hospital in Jazan. However, the Indian consul general said that since it was not a natural death, the repatriation process will take some time.

“Investigation process has to be completed. The body will be kept for some time for post-mortem and other investigation related formalities,” he said.

The motive behind the killing is not yet known. However, Tanzibuddin’s sister Shama Firdausi told The Telegraph daily that her brother had been “apprehensive of some unseen danger.” Tanzibuddin had been working with a telecom company in Sabia since Dec. 2013.
