With regard to the article "Saudi Arabia faces worsening water stress: Researchers" (Aug. 27), we surely have to lay emphasis on the importance of water conservation. Such topics should be taught in schools so that children from a young age are aware of the importance of the issue. Wastewater from households should be reused for flushing toilets, watering parks and car washing. Save water for future generations.

The re-use of water in many Western countries is standard procedure. Because of heavy rainfall in these countries, fresh water is not an issue, but the cost of making it potable  is rising. The use of recycled water for non-potable activities, such as the use of water for gardens, trees, plants, industry and lavatories is an excellent solution and these techniques are applicable here in Saudi Arabia as well. If this is done then costly distilled potable water can be reserved for human consumption.
